Saltbush Prime Dorpers
Saltbush Prime Dorpers are a cross between quality full blood White Dorper rams and White Suffolk stud ewes. Both breeds have proven to compliment each other and have attributes that make them extremely productive terminal sires.
Both breeds are very fertile and have excellent carcass traits combining the hardiness and low maintenance of the White Dorper and the large frame of the White Suffolk. The cross gives the sheep an extra presence and stretch producing an early maturing, heavy, high value carcass.
Saltbush prime Dorpers are a crossbreed sheep and as such are constantly evolving. We have 1st to 4th crosses that will suit a variety of country and management practices. We plan to continue to purchase top quality White Suffolk’s ewes to improve the cross as well as breeding through to pure White Dorper.
We believe the Prime Dorpers are a cost effective alternative to the full blood White Dorper and a better option for some producers. We are really excited about this project and are looking forward to the development of the Prime Dorpers and where they will take us.
Later this year we will have 120 1st cross and 80 2nd to 4th cross Prime Dorper rams for sale along with a selection of young ewes. Rams will sell in 3 grades, $400, $600 and $800 depending on carcass and shedding traits.
In 2007 we will join 550 pure White Suffolk ewes and 280 1st to 4th cross ewes providing large lines for selections in 2008.
